POETRY – RHYME

Archetypal Sculpture, Crewcuts & Busts:

In the museum of art, our embassy of life,
What is this pattern, that I feel.
Familiar but yet strange, totally void of life,
A blank roundness, with nothing to reveal.

Archetypes in history, a series of events,
Form behavioural moulds, that we fill
With energy and desire, destiny presents,
Karmic opportunities, in life’s lessons to fulfill.

Romanism of antiquity, the American dream,
Institutionalise religion, Emperor to dollar.
Old Pax Romanica, back the A team,
Extension of franchise, multi racial collar.

The rhetoric tradition, of Athens and Rome,
Of culture and religion, our foundation to teach.
The makers of empire, our governors at home,
Lifeless embodiments, that spirit can not reach.

Periclean Athens, golden age of culture,
Twentieth century history, old lady Britannica.
Yardsticks for reference, vintage in their lustre,
Duty and truth, perennial pillars of arcadia.
